Jubilee?

Now I'm sure that Queen Elizabeth II is a nice woman, maybe even an accomplished diplomat from time to time, but I can't bring myself to celebrate a feudal institution that supposes that some people are born better than others and have a right to amass wealth and power at the expense of others. Okay, a little less power since the signing of the Magna Carta, but apparently wealth in great abundance.

So let E2 celebrate her 60 years on the throne, but don't expect me to join in, or to be very happy about the various expenses that our federal government will incur in the name of this occasion, while cutting things that are much more important to the citizenry.

Oh, and I would warn you against reading the eighth definition of Jubilee in the urban dictionary: it yields a result similar to googling Santorum. (Since you are now driven to do that, here is the link…but don't say I didn't warn you.)

You think YOU'RE having expenses? You should see how we pay and pay and pay in Britain. The only bright side is it protects you from having Harper as Country Head and us from having Cameron. I have to see a bright side, right?
